Everyone knows them, everyone has them over time, and usually, you want to exterminate pest very quickly. Small pests in your garden. Whether aphids on the beautiful, well-tended roses or caterpillars between the fruit trees – the little beasts are annoying and harmful to the plants in the long run.
- Create Natural Barriers
Mechanical barriers also keep pests away from your valuable plants. You can repel pests by simply creating mechanical barriers. Then it is not even possible for most parasites to get to your beautiful plants. Proven means:
- Close-meshed nets make life difficult for vegetable flies and cabbage whites.
- The same applies to nonwovens. These not only protect against weeds underground but can also be placed directly on the bed.
- Special plastic fences keep snails in check.
- Raised beds are also inaccessible to crawling pests. Here are the instructions for the beautiful beds.
- Kale, cabbage, and salad
- Raised beds offer excellent protection against slugs.
You don’t necessarily have to resort to expensive fences in specialist shops. You can design the fences yourself from old plastic cups or buckets for paint. Cut out the soil and place it around the plant like a “castle wall” as a ring. So, snails don’t stand a chance anymore.
You can carefully pollinate your plants (if they can tolerate it) with rock flour. This also keeps approaching insects away.
Algae cold, ash, or sand are tried and tested methods against crawling and running attacks. Nudibranchs in particular, which need a lot of moisture, avoid the drying floor coverings. If the method doesn’t work invite contractors in the field to do the work.
- Set Plants Against Pests
As an alternative to mechanical barriers, many plants’ aromas are unbearable for pests and let them quickly run away or are simply inedible and poisonous for them.
Against Slugs:
Nudibranchs – a nightmare for every green salad. Ferns, grasses, and furry leafy plants are inedible in their eyes, but a good idea for gardeners to use them to plant the edges of beds. These include, for example, sedum plant, lily of the valley, and carnations. The smell of strong-smelling garden herbs, such as thyme and rosemary, cannot tolerate snails.
Choose a partially shaded spot in the flowerbed. This is where frankincense thrives best.
Against Aphids:
Lavender drives away aphids. Plants that contain essential oils, such as lavender, sage, and onion, will keep the lice away. Lavender is often planted between roses. Nasturtiums and savory are also unpopular with the animals – although it is not yet known why. They are good for protecting fruit trees and vegetable bushes.
